OVER 200 VOLUNTEERS SIGN UP AT FESTIVAL'S FIRST RECRUITING STATION

By Malama TV News

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

The Personnel sub-committee of the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts held a successful recruiting drive today at the American Samoa Community College for volunteers to help with the festival to be hosted in the territory from July 20th to August 2nd this year.

The festival organizing committee announced earlier that it needs hundreds of volunteers in the areas of liaison officers, interpreters, drivers, and security, to name a few, in order to help make the festival a success.  Personnel committee chairperson Niualama Taifane said on radio and television talk shows earlier this month that they would be setting up recruiting stations at key locations for people to come and sign up.

Today’s recruitment was held at the college, and according to committee members, they signed up over 200 college students and others who were excited about the upcoming festival and wanted to help out.

The festival committee will be holding training workshops for volunteers in the February/March timeframe, and this training will be done with assistance from the South Pacific Community (SPC).

Festival committee members were very happy with the turn out today, and will be holding more recruiting stations over the next couple of weeks.  Niualama Taifane encourages everyone to sign up early so that they can be included in the training sessions and preparations leading up to the festival dates.
