Bank of Hawaii became the first platinum sponsor of the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts today when they presented a contribution of $50,000 to help with the hosting of the festival in American Samoa from July 20th to August 2nd this year.
Presenting the check on behalf of the bank was the Executive Vice President and Manager of the Pacific Islands Division, James Polk, who said that Bank of Hawaii is happy to show its support for the arts and cultures of the Pacific.
Co-Chairman of the festival organizing committee Fagafaga Daniel Langkilde accepted the contribution and thanked Bank of Hawaii for their support and generous contribution which will help greatly with the hosting of the regional event.
Meanwhile, the Maliu Mai Beach Resort has also donated to the cause.
At the American Samoa Chamber of Commerce meeting with the Organizing Committee of the 10th Festival of Pacific Arts held last night at the Tradewinds Hotel, local businessman and owner of the Maliu Mai Beach Resort Mapu Jamias challenged the local business sector to show their support for the upcoming festival.
Jamias then handed a check for $500 to members of the committee, and said that although his business is only a small business, he wants to show his excitement and strong support for American Samoa as we prepare to host more than 2,500 festival participants from all over the pacific.
Jamias said that the business community should stop being negative and step up to the plate to show its support for the event which will benefit the whole territory.
