American Samoa Arts Festival short of money

American Samoa needs $5 million to host the Pacific Arts Festival next July but so far has received only one donation of $2,000 from the National Park.
The Executive Director of the Pacific Arts Festival, Lauti Simona says solicitation letters sent to the Department of Interior and Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin have not been answered.
Originally the price tag for hosting the festival was $6 million but Lauti says it has been scaled down to $5 million with the elimination of salaried staff who were to be hired.
Lauti’s office has not had any success with grant applications it sent out last year to art foundations on the mainland.
Out of 19 sent, only four responses have been received and all four were refused.
